I created Staying Safe in a Changing World particularly for my generation, the Baby Boomers who grew up in a very different world and have lived through extraordinary changes in technology, communication and everyday life.
We learned to do things differently. We built businesses, raised families, created communities and worked hard to build the lives we have today.
Now we're navigating a world that can sometimes feel very different from the one we grew up in.
For me, it became personal.
I experienced being financially compromised myself. I experienced the vulnerability, fear, confusion and shock that can come when your financial sense of safety is suddenly compromised — and I had no idea how to move forward.
That experience made me stop and think about how vulnerable any of us can feel when something unexpected happens, and how important it is to have people we trust and a simple plan to follow.
Then I did what I've done throughout my
entrepreneurial life.
For more than 40 years, I have been an entrepreneur. Throughout my career, I have been drawn to real problems, seeing what was needed and creating practical solutions to help solve them.
This experience was no different.
I saw a problem that needed a different kind of solution.
The catalyst was personal. The solution came from a lifetime of creating.
I created Staying Safe in a Changing World because I wanted something simple, practical and respectful — a resource I would feel comfortable putting into the hands of my own family, friends and peers.
Something that doesn't create fear.
Something that starts a conversation.
Something that helps us create a plan with the people we trust.
Because staying safe isn't about being suspicious of everyone.
It's about knowing who we can turn to when something doesn't feel right.
And perhaps most importantly, it's about knowing that we don't have to figure it out alone.
